me miss papa and mama is 20 weeks

A. left for germany for a week-long business trip last friday. JG misses him, and so do i. but we are making the most of it, and having fun just the 2 of us (bebi2 makes 3). A. flew thru paris so he got a day and a half to hang out in the city, and luckily, esther is back in town. but jealousy is in check, since i think he ate and had enough fun for all of us. he's back home on saturday, a day before his bday, so we can celebrate all together. JG wants to throw a surprise party for him. he's really into surprises right now.

went in for bebi2's 20 week check up last thursday. here are the scans! bebi2 is growing at a steady pace - not too big, not too small. they seem to be really hung up on baby and mama size/weight here in japan...of course. average japanese mama weight gain is 18 lbs vs american mamas at 25-30lbs! evil tiny japanese women...me? who cares? as long as things go back to the same afterwards. but bebi2 was ALL OVER THE PLACE during the echo, it was nuts! the technician lady had a difficult time getting the readings. but as you can see (split screen images), the spine is straight and gorgeous, heart beating strong, ribs so cute, and all fingers and toes present! watched her/him opening and closing mouth, pumping fists, and kicking mama's uterus with gusto. even stretching those legs out, resting her/his feet up on the uterus wall. that's my baby!

weather got crazy in tokyo over the weekend, and we had massively huge winds pound us for a day and a half! there was a beige haze over the city from all the dust, and flights and even trains were grounded. JG kept saying, a tad worried, "maybe this is a tornado, and a typhoon, and a storm and hurricane all together!" hope this means spring is finally here! hope you are all getting some spring love where you are as well!

valentine's day madness

so i finally took photos of my belly. what a difference each day makes. i've been feeling pretty pregnant lately. i am still wearing regular clothes, but definitely reaching for anything loose and non-binding. it's too cold here to wear my old maternity couture, so i'm kinda struggling. it's too cold to care. also got a love package from the lagaso goldbergs filled with more maternity clothes. arigato, family!

met saya in shibuya for lunch. she just got back from hawaii, so she was all dark and happy. she indulged my desire for indian food (!!) and we ate too much at samrat. it was nice to see her. and just like that, it was time to pick joaquin up from yochien.

JG and i headed to hiroo for his dentist appt, then we took a long walk thru arisugawa park while he ate his croissant from burdigala. then finally, home. once mercy arrived to babysit, i went to meet A. in roppongi for a date at mama africa's, which was CLOSED, dammit. ended up getting persian food at aladin (intense sensory overload), then we finally went to check out midtown to hunt for good dessert. totally whatever, completely underwhelmed, and we didn't even get good dessert. but it was of course lovely to spend an evening together, alone, just for a little while.

my "little" valentine made me a beautiful card, and i gave him a red heart balloon, and a little box of see's chocolates, of course. my "big real" valentine gave me a cd he hunted for - an mc solaar album i lost many years ago that i love. what a guy. i gave him new muji pajamas made of cotton gauze, matching with me. muy romantico.

whoa! what? really?? maji???

so on the 8th of november, the day after mom's 60th birthday dinner party, i did the test. i was a week late, and i'm never late. but there is just NO way...

woo hoo! but there's that blue line, clear as day. we marvel at our fertility and celebrate the coming of bebi2!!!
right after we get over the fact that i alone probably consumed 2 bottles of crystal last night at the party...dang.

JG is very excited at the prospect of becoming an "oniichan", a big brother. he says it is maybe a girl. i say ya, me too. he talks to the baby every day through the "window" (my belly button), and doesn't yet quite understand just how large that belly is going to become...

so here begins our first ever blog, documenting our second adventure in pregnancy. i'll try to keep it current since i am starting 19 weeks into the pregnancy (!), and so many of you are oh so very far away. please bear with my meanderings and inevitable mama-brain. A. complains it has started already...
